Auggie was replaced by Calder Michaels , the former Colombian station chief who got the job because of Henry. Formerly Auggie served as the head of the CIA’s Office of Special Projects, a unit mandated to “interface amongst the various directorates and help exploit efficiency opportunities to minimize bureaucracy. Originally, he stated that he had lost his sight when he had left the Humvee to check what he thought was a dead dog but turned out to be a disguised IED. Auggie truly understands bureaucracy, but doesn’t seem to like it, speaking with contempt of the 7th Floor. He also has vast knowledge of the CIA and, according to Joan, has the place wired. Not much is known about Auggie before he joined the CIA. Also in the episode, he states that his ability to lie well is due in part to having four ‘mean-ass’ older brothers. When he was in high school, he won the wrestling state championship twice. At this age, Auggie already had advanced computer skills. In , Auggie was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division and held the rank of Captain.
Annie Walker, how you’ve grown. In Season 1 of Covert Affairs , you were an overeager CIA trainee, now, in your fourth season, you’re sophisticated, smart and oh so cool. At long last you’ve hooked up with dreamy Auggie Anderson – the special ops guy who works at Langley doing tech since being blinded in the line of duty, and who has really nice hair.
Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the show’s creators and executive producers, knew there were risks to satisfying their characters’ sexual tension.

Annie takes her niece to the Georgetown E. There, Annie meets Scott Weiss, a hunky doctor who brazenly asks her out on a date. But before the ink of Dr. Weiss’ phone number is dry, Joan and Auggie approach Annie in the hospital parking lot. They have an emergency of their own. Joan briefs Annie about a mole they need exposed at the CIA training facility. Apparently, Gaskins was “turned” during an op in Afghanistan. Joan wants to charge him with treason, but they still need hard evidence, so they enlist Annie to re-enter CIA training as a cover.

Back in & , I reviewed Covert Affairs every week over at GeekFurious. showing my interpretation of how the Walkerson relationship went down. anything, even the discovery of a secret dead wife from Auggie’s past again” and “Annie is fake-dead in the elevator” than I let on up there.
Spoiler alert! As we were looking toward season 4, we realized this is a relationship that had to happen. We needed to honor the chemistry that the two characters have and the two actors have. In the real world, these two would have come together, so we felt we would mirror that. We want to keep people on their toes in all ways. I think Auggie sorta says it, nothing is certain in the world that these people are in.
When Auggie told Annie to think of the one thing she wanted, the one thing she loved, was she thinking of him? She might have been. But I think when he was suggesting it, he was thinking of her. Did Annie know on the boat that Auggie was trying to tell her that he loves her? Or when, in your mind, did she realize he had serious feelings for her, too? Important things. The whole back six episodes have been building up to this moment. So she definitely had an inkling.
Bang and Blame
August “Auggie” Anderson, a blind tech operative, is Annie’s guide in her new life. In the beginning, Annie’s cover story is that she works in Acquisitions at the Smithsonian Museum but she is later let go. The series traces Annie’s evolution from a wide-eyed young operative who fetches coffee for her co-workers to a hardened spy who doesn’t balk at enhanced interrogation. This change in tone is also seen in the opening credits, which used chick lit -style graphics in the early seasons.
The cartoons, like the focus on Annie’s home life with her sister, were gone in the fourth and fifth seasons.
After a bombshell revelation rocks the CIA, Annie and Auggie combine forces with both begin to notice how it strains their working relationship within the CIA. I enjoyed the three previous seasons of Covert Affairs but season 4 is fantastic.
I had a pretty decent audience of readers at the time most of whom were Twitter friends and fellow fans of the show. As ridiculously as I rendered it in the comic strip, I still to this day maintain that it was really not an mischaracterization of how the storyline actually played out on our TV screens. Simplified and exaggerated for comedic effect, sure, but not untrue! It was one of the biggest problems with season 4 of the show.
This blog works much better for that, so I decided to move it here. So here it is, from February …. Hahah o. That was just me getting extra angry about how wishy-washy these two turned out to be and going a bit crazy, lol. More like, to be continued. But I had already previously created a few comic frames to show some of the aftermath of that at the time it all played out in the first place.
But none of it was related to the Walkerson relationship itself.
‘Covert Affairs’ Romance Is On, For Now
Gorham can confirm, however, that fans will not want to miss the emotional Season 2 finale, as Annie and Auggie are getting closer than ever. Hint: Physical contact is included. In Tuesday night’s finale, Annie is in Sweden on vacation, bringing along sister Danielle, who’s mistaken for a spy during what’s supposed to be a routine info drop.
As usual, it’s Auggie to the long-distance rescue, but he gets a little sidetracked by some impending medical news. Not to mention, he’s still dealing with Parker’s departure.

By the way, you want to see my secret file? They always wrote the characters with this little frisson , and Chris Gorham and I were always trying to keep the idea of romance at a low simmer until they were ready. After four years, they are really our friends, so for them to see us, like, get naked and make out…. One of our crew was so blushy…. Pretty quickly. It puts the relationship under a great strain.

After Carrie wrote that review, though, Covert Affairs returned for a six-episode arc that struggled to make the same impact. The episodes were watchable, but they lacked the sense of urgency the previous 10 episodes had developed and saw the show slipping back toward the affable middle-ground so emblematic of USA programming. Once lifted, the show moves quickly into something the writers have been delaying for the entire series, and it offers a sense of catharsis to see the two characters in a relationship.
The episode also relies on its in medias res opening, as we see Annie engaged in a shootout with Michaels at the top of a skyscraper as she finishes an emotional phone call with Auggie. Rather than making the introduction itself as thrilling as possible, the idea of it becoming more intriguing in the future is used to justify the somewhat slow start.
When “Covert Affairs” returns for Season 4 on Tues., July 16 (9 p.m. ET on USA), Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) will embark on thei.
The journey of Annie Walker Piper Perabo has always been a love story. From the very beginning, we knew that Annie was a girl who followed her heart to the ends of the earth and wherever it led, she would follow. It began when Annie joined the CIA, in search of a man she fell in love with on holiday — a man who disappeared so easily that she figured out that he had to be a spy.
Slipping in and out of her life like a ghost, Ben was the man who gave Annie a taste for adventure and opened the door to international espionage; he introduced her to a world that she had always craved and gave her the courage to embrace it. Then just as soon as she stepped through gleaming glass doors of the CIA and welcoming Annie with open arms was the equally mysterious Jai Wilcox Sendhil Ramamurthy , who promised to take Annie on more adventures — which she may have gladly gone, but for a bomb that blew him to smithereens.
It is said that a blind man sees everything. He could hear the inflections in her voice, feel the grace and ease with which she moved when he walked with her, and could feel the warmth of genuine concern and affection for him each time they were together. Auggie was not just enamored with a beautiful woman, he began to fall in love with a woman worthy of his love. Alas, the love story of Annie and Auggie has been interrupted time and time again with various flirtations and other loves.
Auggie had a disastrous relationship with Liza Hearn Emmanuelle Vaugier , the news reporter only seeking the inside scoop on the CIA; as well as recently falling in love with the daughter of his old mentor — Parker Rowland Devin Kelley. Also like Annie, Auggie slowly began to see that the one person who was constant in his life that he could depend on and trust, and who he began to appreciate more and more was right there by his side.
Annie was the girl that greeted him each day in the office and who called him from no matter where she was around the globe — both to check in for work and also because she cared enough to see how he was doing.
